Specialised non-MBA Business Programs gaining popularity over MBA
New Delhi, April 15, 2014: A globalsurvey of future post-graduate business students reveals thatpreference for non-MBA master's degree specialising in business are slowly gaining popularity over MBA programs. Even though MBA is still the most wanted degree, close to 50% of the candidates are considering non-MBA master's programs in business, and 20% students are not considering an MBA at all.

The latest report from the annual GMAC mba.com 'Prospective Students Survey' of more than 12,000 potential management students from across the world reports that in the last 5 years, the percentage of students considering only specialized master's degrees has increased from 13% to 20%, whereas those considering only MBA decreased from 55% to 53%. At the same time, those considering both MBA and non-MBA specialized master's programs in business declined from about 33% to 25%.

The Graduate Management Admission Council conducted this survey among prospective business students who had registered on mba.com.

This growing interest in specialized business master's (non-MBA) programs was seen particularly among citizens of Asia-Pacific Islands and Europe, with a slight increase in interest among US citizens as well.

These increasingly popular masters-level (non-MBA) programs in business include finance (44%), accounting (39%), management (33%), and international management (25%). Other master-level programs include marketing, data analytics and entrepreneurship.

The survey also revealed that 40% of all prospective students prefer full-time MBA programs [either 2-year (21%) or 1-year (19%)], 11% prefer a part-time MBA program and remaining go for a variety of other options such as flexible MBA, online MBA, executive MBA (EMBA) and various masters programs.
