Bangalore University to introduce four-year undergraduate programme

Working in the lines of Delhi University, Bangalore University (BU) is also planning to introduce the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP), a daily has reported. They are expected to be implemented from June, 2014.
The courses have been designed to be more inter-disciplinary. Students will be awarded a diploma if they choose to opt out of the course after two years. If they pursue the course for three years, they will receive a Bachelor's degree. After completion of four years, they will be awarded a Bachelor's degree with Honours. After students acquire the Honours degree, they can complete Master's course only in one-year.
Each course will consist of a specific number of credits. A two-year programme will have 64 credits, while three-year programme will have 104 and a four-year course will have 154 credits.
The subjects will include the following:
Part 1: Languages
Part 2: Optional Subjects
Part 3: Foundation, Skill Development or Interdisciplinary Courses, Extension/Co-curricular/Extra-curricular Activities
The results of candidates who clear the tests, at the conclusion of the 4th, 6th and 8th semesters, will be classified based on the aggregate marks in all the semesters as well as aggregate or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).
Moreover, the new programme has more options in subjects. Students are in favour of the interdisciplinary feature of the course as well, as it provides more opportunities. The interdisciplinary approach offers students the opportunity to choose subjects they are interested in, even as they join a career-driven programme.

Subjects include Part 1: languages; Part 2: optional subjects; Part 3: Foundation, skill development or interdisciplinary courses (like soft skills, computer application, business entrepreneurship, philosophy, psychology, Indian history, Science and life, Education and literacy etc); extension and co-curricular and extra-curricular activities (NSS, NCC, sports and games, physical education, yoga, field studies, community work, etc)
As per university officials, BU will take all measures to ensure that results are declared on time. Data management will be given focus and there will be penalty for announcing incorrect results. Moreover, internal assessment will be done in marks and not grades. Thirty marks will be allotted for internal assessment.

84 pc students choose to settle in India for career prospects: Survey Indian students are yet to lose hope on their career prospects in India. Eighty-four per cent of graduation and post-graduation students in Delhi-NCR will choose to settle in India for career prospects while the remaining 16 per cent are of the view that moving abroad revealed a recent survey. The survey 'Youth Economics: Career Expectations Survey' undertaken by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry found that students are grappled with multiple challenges such as lack of financial resources for pursuing education vis-a-vis ever increased prices and lack of employment opportunities.
