1,300 tablets will be invigilators
AHMEDABAD: The 1,300 tablets that Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has received will be installed in classrooms for especially the HSC Science examinations. The tablets will be used as an alternative to CCTV cameras which were directed to be installed in each exam centre, to record the examination on camera.

Board officials said that the same tablets were recently used in the election in Rajasthan, and the same tablets will be used for elections in the state. Elections are scheduled to take place in Gujarat on April 30.

Board officials said that these tablets will be placed inside classrooms so that all student activity is captured.

The tablets will be linked with the main server in Gandhinagar. No less than 10 people will be deployed to keep a watch on activities within the classes. Ahmedabad city will have 10 schools where these tablets will be installed. A total of 126 classes will be covered.

The board had made it mandatory for all exam centres to have CCTV cameras installed before the exams. However, only 25% of centres reported compliance with this order while the remaining 75% - mainly in rural areas - haven't got cameras installed.

"The footage will help find if teachers are facilitating copying as is alleged in many verbal complaints, or if there is a crowd collecting to pressurize examination supervisors," board chairman R R Varsani said.
